Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed yesterday during the company's first quarter earnings call that Amazon is creating a more "generalized and capable" language model (LLM) to power Alexa. As ChatGPT has become a favorite in this field, technology companies have started to work on this issue.

Amazon Manager Made a Statement on the Subject
It was described as a deep learning algorithm that can recognize, summarize, and generate text and other content based on information derived from vast amounts of text data. Jassy said that although Amazon already has an LLM that supports Alexa, the tech giant is working on one that is more capable than the current one. The Amazon manager believes that the addition of an improved LLM will help Amazon work towards its goal of building "the world's best personal assistant," but acknowledges that it will be difficult to do so in many areas. Jassy believes Amazon has a good starting point with Alexa, as it has "several hundred million endpoints" used in entertainment, shopping and smart homes. He also noted that there is a lot of engagement from third-party ecosystem partners. Besides all these announcements, Amazon reported first-quarter earnings that beat expectations and initially sent shares higher, but then reversed course after managers raised concerns about continued weakness in cloud growth. Its revenue for the quarter rose 9.4% to $127.4 billion, with operating income of $4.8 billion.
