Apple currently sells four different AirPods models, from the second generation AirPods to the advanced AirPods Max. AirPods have become very popular earbuds, but their price is prohibitive. But according to emerging information, the company is currently working on the new "AirPods Lite" to compete with cheaper wireless headphones. AirPods shipments are expected to drop from 73 million units in 2022 to 63 million in 2023. It could be due to "AirPods 3 demand" combined with the fact that Apple may not launch new AirPods this year.

The new AirPods Lite is coming
According to leaked information, the company is allegedly working on "AirPods Lite". At this point, it is unclear exactly what this product is and what features it will have. However, the information claims that it will be introduced as a "lower priced product" to compete with non-Apple headphones.
With AirPods 3 launching in 2021, Apple is offering the previous generation AirPods 2 for $129 and AirPods 3 for a lower price of $169 in stores. Presumably this "AirPods Lite" will cost less than $129. Another option for Apple could be to lower the price of the second generation AirPods even further, perhaps to $99. In 2022, Apple launched the second generation AirPods Pro with significant improvements, including better noise cancellation and a new charging case with a U1 chip for Precision Finding.
