Apple has announced the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which replaces the high-end model first introduced a year ago. The new model gets improved internals shared with the Apple Watch Series 9, as well as a new all-black colour option. For some time, the Cupertino company was rumoured to be working on an Apple Watch Pro, which turned out to be branded as the Apple Watch Ultra. At 49mm and 2000 nits, it had the largest Apple Watch face ever, with the display offering twice the brightness of the standard model.

iPhone 15 was the first to include a customisable Action button on the front of the feature, making the transition to the Pro and Pro Max. Battery life was touted at 36 hours, with lower-power mode extended to 60 hours. The speaker and microphone have been beefed up for noisy environments, including an 86dB siren for calling for help, along with an ultra-precise GPS. The Apple Watch Ultra doubled as a dive computer for scuba divers, operating to depths of up to 40 metres, about ten metres more than the usual 30 million limit for recreational divers.
As with the Series 9, this year's Apple Watch Ultra gets the same S9 processor for "super smooth animations"; improved heart rate monitor; and U2 ultra-wideband location chip. Siri is now processed on the device thanks to a new neural engine in the S9 chip. Siri can now also provide access to your health data, which was available "earlier this year". The new U2 chip can find your iPhone with ultra-precise, media recommendations when you approach a HomePod - or Now Playing controls if the speaker is already playing something. The watch also offers a double-tap gesture for things like answering and ending phone calls and snoozing alarms, again in common with the S9 model. Battery life in low-power mode is now up to 72 hours. While the original Ultra was only available in raw titanium in grey, the 2nd generation model offers a new all-black colour option.
