Companies want to reduce their carbon emissions. However, most businesses will never reach full net zero through decarbonisation efforts alone. To do so, they will need decarbonisation. To date, the focus of sustainability programmes has been on traditional emissions avoidance offsets. However, Supercritical's market is one where companies can achieve net carbon zero, as set out in the industry-standard Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Supercritical is at the vanguard of efforts to urgently scale the CDR market. It is the only marketplace that focuses on high-quality, vetted, resilient CDR projects. These include engineered solutions such as biochar, direct air capture (DAC) and enhanced weathering, in addition to nature-based solutions such as afforestation. All CDR projects on the market have to go through Supercritical's review process. Only 6 per cent make the cut.
Supercritical acts as a market maker by aggregating demand from institutional buyers. It is also helping CDR projects scale. It is also pioneering innovative new acquisition deals to jump-start accelerated CDR capacity growth. In May, Supercritical brokered a long-term purchase agreement for biochar provider Carbo Culture, enabling the upfront purchase of thousands of tonnes of biochar. And it allowed Carbo Culture to develop C1, a new plant that converts carbon-containing biomass into biochar in a commercial operation. scaled up for the first time.
Supercritical for Business measures, reduces and eliminates these CDR methods and carbon emissions, helping businesses achieve net zero. Supercritical is already one of the largest carbon cleaning markets in the world, with 35 per cent of corporate purchases taking place through the platform and two of the world's top 20 CDR buyers purchasing through the platform. Going forward, Supercritical aims to accelerate hiring, enhance its product offering and win additional customers to continue to support the scaling of the CDR market.
