Fashion posters on Lemon8 can "tag" where they bought their clothes and how much they cost. According to market research, Lemon8 was launched three years ago and has since reached nearly 16 million downloads worldwide. 38% of these downloads are from users in Japan.
Although the number of downloads in the US is unknown, it is estimated that there are approximately 4.25 million active users using the app across the country. The biggest factor in the popularity of the app in such a short time is of course TikTok. ByteDance actively uses TikTok to promote its social media platform. It is also thought that Lemon8 could be an alternative social media app for TikTok, which has long been a subject of debate in the US and Europe and even banned in many countries.
