Demet Mutlu was born on August 22, 1981, in New York, USA. Her father was a businessman dealing with construction projects, operating both in the United States and in Turkey. Her parents had a very busy business life in New York. Mutlu learned to work hard and succeed from her family.
Having completed her primary and secondary education in New York, Mutlu went to Italy for her high school education. Returning to America after high school, the successful entrepreneur began studying Economics at New York University. She graduated from New York University, Department of Economics with the first rank.
After her graduation, Demet Mutlu gained experience in finance, business development and marketing in Switzerland, Japan, America and Turkey.
Demet Mutlu Dropped Out of Harvard for Trendyol!
After attaining her career experiences, she was accepted from Harvard to pursue a master's degree. But her education at Harvard did not last long. Mutlu noticed the e-commerce gap in the clothing industry while she was working in Turkey. Thereupon, Mutlu decided to return to Turkey with the idea of Trendyol. She dropped out of Harvard in the first months of her second year of education.
In 2009, Demet Mutlu founded Trendyol. In 2010, he became the founding partner of Peak.
With the opening of the en.trendyol.com website, this company, which operates in 27 countries in Europe, provided many benefits to those interested in e-commerce. With Trendyol, local manufacturers and brands had the opportunity to increase their awareness around the world. At the same time, Trendyol has created a change in the perception towards the Turkish clothing industry and Turkish brands in the world.

Trendyol's value reached 16.5 billion dollars with its most recent investment. Thus, it was entitled to receive the title of Decacorn, which is given to companies with more than 10 billion dollars! Trendyol also went down in history as the first Decacorn company to come out of Turkey.

Mutlu won many awards with her successes in her career. The first of these was awarded by the US Fortune Magazine in 2011. Fortune Magazine chose Demet Mutlu as one of the 10 Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs in the World. In the same year, the World Economic Forum named Demet Mutlu as a Global Shaper. After this development, she became one of the founding members of Global Shapers in Turkey.
In 2012 Mutlu had the chance to attend the Davos Summit. By 2013, Mutlu was the only Turk in the list of 500 people who shape the fashion world today, by Business of Fashion.
She was the first person from Turkey to be nominated and selected in the list of Young Global Leaders created by the World Economic Forum in 2016. In the same year, Trendyol was described as the "World's Most Exclusive Private Social Network". Also in 2016, Mutlu was introduced as an example to European entrepreneurial women in The Hunders and Forbes magazines.
She served as the Turkey representative of the Inspiring Women project of Refinery29, the world-renowned lifestyle platform, realized in 2017.
The Economist Magazine named Demet Mutlu the Women Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019 Business People of the Year Awards.
