Swiss startup Jua has raised $16 million in a seed funding round led by 468 Capital and Green Generation Fund with participation from Promus Ventures, Kadmos Capital, Flix Mobility founders, Session.vc, Virtus Resources Partners, Notion.vc and InnoSuisse. Jua aims to create a large “physics” model for the natural world, with its first app focused on modelling and predicting weather and climate patterns, particularly in relation to the energy industry.
The Jua’s Approach Differentiates It from Other Artificial Intelligence Models
Jua’s co-founders, CEO Andreas Brenner and CTO Marvin Gabler, emphasise the need for more accurate modelling and forecasting due to climate change and the increasing volatility of geopolitics. The startup provides better forecasting tools for market analysts and organisations in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, insurance, transport and government. It also plans to overcome short-term challenges. The company believes its model, which takes in more information and is 20 times larger than some competitors, will stand out in terms of accuracy. Jua aims to create a fundamental model for the natural world by improving artificial general intelligence through understanding physics and addressing a broader set of physical questions and challenges.
In addition to traditional weather station data, it also considers noisy data such as current satellite imagery and topography. The startup aims to bring all relevant data into an end-to-end system, increase efficiency and reduce operational costs. The company claims that its system uses 10,000 times less computing than legacy systems. Jua’s approach differentiates it from other AI models, especially in the area of the underlying model, which has attracted great interest from global players such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Amazon and Meta. Let’s add for funding. It will support Jua’s expansion and product development. The first application is also expected to be launched in the coming weeks.
As base models become important in AI development, the companies that build and control them have significant value and potential impact. For Jua’s mission to understand and model the physical world. It creates opportunities beyond weather forecasts. Potentially impacting materials science, biomedicine, chemistry and more. The startup is also considering safety and reliability concerns with AI models in the development process.
