Latitude Redesigns Customer Experience
Latitude automates driving at times that can be frustrating, stressful and unpleasant, such as traffic or long highways. And in doing so, it redesigns the customer experience. According to transportation analytics firm INRIX, the average U.S. driver spends nearly 100 hours a year sitting in traffic. Doug Field, President of Advanced Product Development and Technology at Ford Motor Company, said.
The establishment of Latitude supports Ford's strategic shift last year to focus on autonomous driving technologies for personal vehicles. According to the information, Ford has hired approximately 550 employees who previously worked at Argo AI in machine learning and robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and computing systems, test operations, systems and safety engineering. The Latitude team applied much of their experience in autonomous driving, including software development tools and infrastructure, in the pivot to work on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Sammy Omari, Executive Director of ADAS Technologies at Ford, will also serve as CEO of Latitude.
Latitude is headquartered in Pittsburgh. And it has additional engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich. and Palo Alto, California. Meanwhile, we understand the company will also operate a highway speed test track facility in Greenville, S.C.
