Have you ever heard of the concept of Mirror World? Mirror World has very similar features with the concept of Metaverse, which we often hear on social media and the news these days. Moreover, there is a high probability that you have experienced Mirror World.
Mirror World is an Exact Replica of the Real World
The phones, computers, tablets and televisions that accompany us in every corner of our lives open the door to a vast two-dimensional world. But right now, as you read this article, someone is trying to make this two-dimensional world three-dimensional.
The concept of Mirror World was first mentioned in a book written by Yale University Computer Science Professor David Gelernter in 1991. “Mixed Reality” is the exact equivalent of this name given to the correspondence of everything belonging to the real world in a virtual world.
Mirror World is not a concept as far from our lives as the Metaverse. Because it is highly likely that you have experienced the Mirror World. For example, Google Maps is an example of a Mirror World, although you may not be aware of it. Thanks to Google Maps you can wander the streets, even climb a mountain!
Another good example for Mirror World is the game engine project Anteworld, which is being carried out in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is possible to see the mountains and seas in very realistic image quality with Anteworld. Anteworld contains a true-to-life copy of the Earth!
Making the Real World a Game
It is possible that you have never heard of Anteworld before, but there is such an application that can serve as an example for Mirror World, which you should definitely know! The name of that application is Pokemon Go, which took the whole world by storm!
The real world was the map of the game, in this universe where millions of people from 153 different countries chased after the Pokemon characters that had moved to our world and competed with each other to catch them. The creatures that people tried to catch made this game become a Mirror World.
It's easier to take an existing city and fly dragons or add a few creatures to streets than recreating a city. Google Maps has opened up its resources for developers of games similar to Pokemon Go. Thus, developing games related to the virtual world has become much easier than before. It is now possible to design a Mirror World game even in three weeks!
In order to create our own avatar and perform activities with other avatars in these Mirror Worlds, it is necessary to wait for the Metaverse. This is where Mirror World and Metaverse diverge. Although it allows us to break the reality, Mirror World cannot make us feel like we are in another world.
Considering the development speed of technology, we will have the opportunity to not only see streets, streets or buildings from the digital devices we use in the very near future but also to examine the rooms and furniture in those buildings in detail. Maybe we will interact with those rooms and build virtual rooms in Mirror World according to our own needs.
Being One Step Behind the New World
The fact that Facebook changed its name to Meta brought to mind the thought that this new world will move away from decentralization. Blockchain technology is the biggest formation that has the potential to provide this decentralization. But if we can put aside the dark sides of the Mirror World and Metaverse concepts, it is possible to say that a brand new and very lively world seems to us to be explored.
First of all, let's imagine those first years when we stepped into an interactive internet age with Web 2.0. Applications launched one after another and a completely different environment for people to recreate themselves! The Internet has undoubtedly seriously affected people's careers, communication and lifestyle. What's more, this only happened in two dimensions. The developments that can be experienced by transferring all these to a three-dimensional environment have endless possibilities.
Imagine that instead of visiting a website from our computer, you go to its virtual world counterpart. Imagine meeting someone's avatar instead of viewing their social media profile. We think that in the future, even two-dimensional movies will become obsolete. Who would rather watch a movie from outside than live it?
Isn't it exciting to know that we are a few steps behind all this?
