PlayStation announced today that the PS5 has finally released its highly anticipated firmware update that adds 1440p support. In July, PlayStation announced that they would be beta testing a new firmware update that includes support for a highly requested feature, 1440p. In addition to this support, the beta included a new game list feature as well as new social features like Screen Share requests. Now, the update is rolling out to everyone.

PlayStation 5 Coming Full of Features
As expected, the new 1440p resolution is the star of the update. Users can now select this output option if they have a compatible TV or monitor. Games that support 1440p will come out at this resolution. If not, 4K games will continue to be super samples until this release. There is one big downside to using 1440p though. Variable Refresh Rate is only supported in 1080p and 4K on PS5. Hopefully PlayStation can expand VRR support to 1440p in a future update.
Apart from adding 1440p, the update also includes other features that come in the beta version. However, if you live in the US or UK, it includes one more new feature. PS5 players in both countries will be able to search for content on YouTube with voice commands. You will be able to use your voice to open the YouTube app with your voice and it will automatically search for what you want.
PlayStation told gamers in 2020 that it could add 1440p support for game resolution output to the PlayStation 5 if "desired enough". Apparently this happened as it will now come out in a new update.
With the launch of today's new global PS5 system software update, not only 1440p resolution is available for eligible TVs and monitors, but also Game Lists and other expected social features. There's also a new audio comparison option and a new YouTube voice command preview to hear the difference between stereo output and 3D audio on headphones.
Explanations About New Features
Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience, wrote in a recent PlayStation blog post;
This system software update allows players in the US and UK to preview the ability to search YouTube by voice command. “Another feature we are excited to bring to more PS5 players is the ability to search for content on YouTube via Voice Command (Preview),” the blog writes. “You can say 'Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube' from anywhere on PS5, including during gameplay. The YouTube app will open and relevant search results will be displayed.”
A few more new features include the ability to start a PS Remote Play session via the PS App and request a Share Screen from there.
