Sadriye Görece was born in Manisa in 1995 as a congenitally visually impaired person. She spent her childhood in the city where she was born. During these years, her family, friends and teachers always took great care of Görece. Thus, her years in Manisa were extremely comfortable for her.
After completing secondary school, Görece was awarded an important scholarship by the US Department of State. Thanks to this scholarship, Görece went to the USA in 2009 for her high school education. It was very difficult for Görece, who went to the USA from Manisa as a visually impaired young person who did not speak English, to get away from her comfort zone. Most of the time, she was thinking of leaving her education halfway and returning to Turkey. She altered her phone and computer in order to make it easier to learn a new language and to get away from the environment she was used to. In the end, Sadriye Görece got so used to life in the USA that she no longer wanted her life in Turkey, where she lived dependent on others.
Görece graduated from high school in 2013 and started her university education at Boğaziçi University. During her undergraduate studies, she devoted herself to being an advocate for people with visual impairments like her. As a matter of fact, her future venture was also in this field. When Görece's path crossed with Cihat Ersin Aydın, the application called BlindLook emerged.
Sadriye Görece Developed BlindLook for the Visually Impaired
Relatively, before stepping into this venture, BlindLook focused on the number of potential customers. The number of visually impaired people in Turkey exceeded 1 million. 200,000 people could not see at all. There was no other entrepreneurship in this field that appealed to such a wide audience. Thus, it was obvious that a solution had to be created to meet the needs of the visually impaired easily.
BlindLook adventure started for Sadriye Görece on February 26, 2019. She embarked on this journey with the dream of an equal and barrier-free life. First, she made restaurant menus barrier-free for the visually impaired. Thanks to the BlindLook application installed on their phones, people can identify the restaurant they are in with the help of their navigation, and then listen to the menus aloud. Moreover, BlindLook assists the visually impaired in choosing a restaurant. BlindLook can describe the way to the restaurant with the name “Blind Directions”, down to important details for a visually impaired person, such as stairs and pavements on the road.
She Explained the World of the Visually Impaired to his Business Partners
The biggest problem in the spread of BlindLook was to introduce the application correctly to people who had no idea about it before. It was challenging for Görece to be convincing, especially about the technologies developed for visually impaired citizens and the breadth of their usage areas. But for Sadriye Görece, it was worth the effort to add something new to the lives of the visually impaired.
She took help from demographic information to convince her is business partners. She told them about the world of the visually impaired and its importance. Before BlindLook, she argued that this audience, which no one thought, deserved a life without disabilities.
As a matter of fact, Sadriye Görece has achieved this goal today. BlindLook, with more than 1000 restaurant partners, has ensured that the visually impaired can have an unhindered social life. Relatively for this purpose, people continue to work for the popularization of BlindLook.
