Especially in recent years, research on space has gained momentum in the world. While major developments are expected in the coming years, Turkey established the Turkish Space Agency in 2018 in order to have a say in space and technology developments. Along with a regulation published today, a statement was made about the personnel who will work in the Turkish Space Agency. In the regulation, which was shared under the name of "Space Technologies Expertise Regulation", general qualifications for experts and assistant experts who will take part in the studies of the institution were specified. In the Official Newsletter, information was also given about working procedures and principles. It also included duties, powers, rights and responsibilities, and entrance and proficiency exams.
Exam Conditions Shared
In the regulation consisting of 34 articles, the exam conditions were shared for the candidates. Accordingly, candidates will first be called for the exam according to their KPSS score rankings. The entrance exam will be organized taking into account the staff and needs. Candidates with at least 70 points from the written exam will be called in for the oral exam. Candidates who are successful in the entrance exam will be appointed to the assistant specialist position.
Details regarding the staff and the exam will be announced at least 30 days before. This will be before the end of the exam application date. In the details to be shared by the Turkish Space Agency Presidency, the candidates must also meet the following conditions:
Turkish Space Agency: "Thesis Will Be Compulsory"
Persons who undertake the task of assistant specialists are required to submit a thesis proposal. This is within two years of starting their duty. Assistant experts whose thesis topics are deemed suitable will be given a thesis preparation period of one year. Assistant specialists must have actually worked for at least 3 years in order to take the proficiency exam. In the Official Newsletter, it was stated that the time spent in candidacy would be included in this period. Candidates will be able to switch to specialization as long as they meet these conditions and are successful in the proficiency exam. In addition to this, it has been announced that the specialist candidates have to submit a document proving their language proficiency to the institution as of the date of their specialization.
If the Assistant Specialist Fails, They Will Be Dismissed
If the assistant experts do not meet the necessary conditions within the specified time, their duties will be terminated. According to this, if the expert candidates cannot submit their theses within the given time or fail in both proficiency exams, they will be dismissed. In addition, if they cannot fulfil the foreign language requirement, their assistant specialist titles will be terminated. The person whose employment is terminated can be appointed to a suitable civil servant cadre.

Turkish Space Agency Will Send Employees Abroad
According to the regulation, experts and assistant experts will be able to work in groups & duties assigned by the presidency. Experts who have worked in the group for at least five years will be appointed as coordinators. Coordinators will be responsible for separating the work divisions within the group and ensuring the necessary order. Experts and assistant experts will also be sent abroad. Posts purpose are to be made within the scope of the Regulation on Civil Servants to be Sent Abroad. The Purpose is to increase the necessary professional knowledge, manners and experience of the experts and their assistants in space.
