According to the report published by StartupCentrum, startups in Turkey received an investment of 1.28 billion dollars in the first three months of 2022. According to the data shared in the report, Turkish startups, which received a total investment of 1.56 billion dollars in 2021, seem to have caught the year 2021 in the first months of 2022. One of the remarkable issues regarding investments in the report was the comparison of investments according to their amounts. In this way, more information can be obtained about investments that are less talked about in the shadow of high-numbered investments. 61 Investments in 3 Months
While 61 investments were made during the last 3 months, the amount of investment per venture was stated as 25.5 million dollars. There are 3 Unicorns in 61 initiatives. (Unicorn: startups valued at more than $1 Billion). These are Getir, Dream Games and Insider. One of these companies, Insider, became Unicorn last quarter, with a valuation of $1.1 billion and an investment of $121 million.
Investments in the Gaming Industry Increased
In the first quarter of 2022, 8 gaming startups received a total investment of 330 million dollars. Gaming startups, which left their mark on last year, continued to receive investments this year as well. In the report, it is mentioned that there is a slowdown in the number of new investments compared to 2021, but it is seen that the amount of investment per venture in the gaming industry has increased. The sector that received the most investment after the gaming sector was Finance with 8 startups. Although the number of startups receiving investment is high, the total amount of investment remained at the level of 15 million dollars.

İstanbul is well ahead
The importance of Istanbul in the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem is clearly seen in the report. In the first 3 months of 2022, investments were made in 5 cities, but 82% of the enterprises are headquartered in Istanbul. Considering the amount of investment, almost all of the 1.28 billion dollars was spent on startups in Istanbul. Another issue that draws attention in the first quarter of 2022 is foreign investors. 36 of the 231 investors are foreign investors. Investors, who showed great interest last year, seem to be looking for Turkish startups to invest in this year as well.
