Recently, a huge step has been taken for the completion of the Karapınar Solar Power Plant, located in the Karapınar district of Konya. It is planned to be the largest solar power plant in Turkey when it is completed. UKEF (UK Export Finance), the credit institution of the British government, opened a loan of approximately 291 million dollars to Kalyon Holding, which is building the power plant, for the completion of the power plant.
Karapınar SPP, one of Turkey's largest and most important projects in clean energy, is expected to have the potential to supply electricity to 2 million people when completed.
The year 2022 is pointed out for the completion of the project. With the new funding provided by UKEF, it seems likely that the plant will be completed by this date.
The power plant, which is frequently stated to be the largest solar power plant in Turkey, is planned to be the size of 2600 football fields.
Support to Turkey Solar Power Panels from General Electrics
General Electric, one of the world's largest electronics companies, also supported the Karapınar Solar Power Plant. Working with UKEF on the loan provided, General Electric is expected to use FLEXINVERTER solar energy technology in the Karapınar Solar Energy plant.
General Electric Energy Financial Services Global Public Equity Leader Guto Davies made a statement on the subject:
“We are proud to realize one of Turkey's most important renewable energy projects and, on this occasion, to cooperate with UKEF once again to commission General Electric's first FLEXINVERTER solar power plant technology outside the USA. “This collaboration allows us to offer our customers competitive financing for GE projects that provide sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy. ”
The commissioning of FLEXINVERTER solar energy technology provided by General Electric has been completed.
Prakash Chandra, CEO of GE Renewable Energy Renewable Hybrid Systems, said:
“There is enormous potential for solar energy in Turkey and this potential can be addressed with smart solutions to help integrate this natural energy source into the grid reliably and at plant scale. We are excited to work with Kalyon Energy on these projects and we look forward to opportunities to increase the penetration of renewable energy in Turkey” and talked about Turkey's renewable energy potential.
