Waze is getting a standalone app for some car models. So, it is launching a dedicated app in two new cars. Before that, if you wanted to use the app in the car, you had to connect your smartphone to the infotainment system. However, thanks to Google's built-in Android Automotive Operating System, drivers will now be able to access the navigation app without connecting to any external device.

The software is the most popular navigation app in France. It was recently updated with three regional accents (Toulouse, Provençal and ch'ti). So it makes sense that Waze has chosen to partner with French carmaker Renault to launch a new, dedicated version of the app for cars.
Currently, the standalone app is only available on dedicated screens inside the new Renault Austral Hybrid and Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicles in Europe. It offers the usual Waze alerts, navigation and routing options. It won't be the last brand to provide the app, of course, as General Motors, Chevrolet and Volvo offer similar Google integration. Honda will also soon use the embedded Android system. Waze has been actively looking for solutions to improve the in-car experience in recent years. In addition to deeper integration with CarPlay and Apple Music, the platform has also brought fun 70s, 80s and 90s themes for the appearance aspect.
