The world's largest multi-use power line will be built under the North Sea. It will increase the UK's energy supply by enough to power 1.8 million homes. The new LionLink will connect the UK and the Netherlands with offshore wind farms, providing clean, affordable and secure energy to the UK. It will also help reduce household bills. It's important to note. The power line, called LionLink, is being developed by the National Grid and TenneT, the Dutch electricity network. It could be operational by the early 2030s. While normal interconnectors only connect two countries, the multi-purpose LionLink will connect the UK and the Netherlands in tandem with offshore wind farms in the heart of the North Sea.

This is part of the government's efforts to work with business to grow the economy, one of the Prime Minister's 5 priorities. Scaling up clean energy not only helps create better-paying jobs across the country. It also strengthens economic security by reducing dependence on foreign gas supplies. The Energy Security Minister is also expected to sign a historic agreement with Denmark to increase trade in cheaper and cleaner energy.
Meanwhile, the North Sea energy sector is expected to bring £20 billion a year of investment to the UK's coastal regions and create 40,000 skilled green jobs, according to official sources.
